It's not about the
It's not about the benchmarks game anymore. Computing hardware gets cheaper by the day, while developer time gets costlier. Also, with the current trend of processors doubling the number of cores instead of doubling frequency every year, today's programming languages have to make development easier by allowing easy abstractions rather than "run fastest".
I have been experimenting with Scala for the last 2 months, and I think it is very promising for everything from scripts to mathematical computation to web-development.
